Largest day trip fishing charter boat in Whittier

Heated cabin with seating for everyone

Large enclosed head(toilet)

Large walkaround decks

Rod holders for all- makes it much easier for children to reel in halibut!

Fool’s Gold is a 40’ twin diesel US Coast Guard inspected vessel certified to carry 15 passengers. Our heated upper cabin seats 14, the lower cabin seats 4. Fool’s Gold large walkaround decks allow you to spread you out to prevent tangles. Rod holders on the railing make it much easier to reel in halibut – to the point that 5 years old can reel in medium sized halibut.

Maximum of 10 rods fished at a time

Although we can legally fish 15 rods at a time, we choose to limit our charters to 10 rods to provide a better experience.

Sea sickness is uncommon!

Prince William Sound is protected from the Gulf of Alaska by two islands, 25 and 52 miles long. Less than 1% of our clients get seasick, far less than boats that fish the Gulf of Alaska.

How Our Day Trip Fishing Charters Work

Departure time 7 am, return time approximately 5:30 pm. Getting to Whittier requires traveling through the Anton Anderson one way tunnel. The tunnel is open for entry into Whittier on the half hour. You should arrive at the tunnel by 6:20 am to allow time to pay the $13 toll and line up for the opening.

Individual fishing charters are primarily halibut charters. Our goal is to get everyone their halibut. If we limit the boat (except for share a rod clients) and there is time we will pursue salmon or rock fish if they are in the area. It is common to catch other species when targeting halibut.

Multispecies fishing available on exclusive charters.

Salmon fishing charters are usually offered as exclusive charters. Chum salmon are available mid June to early July. Silver salmon start showing up early July and run into mid August. Sockeye or red salmon as Alaskans call them run from mid June well into July, but are rarely accessible on day trips. We occasionally catch king salmon when fishing for other species.

Halibut fishing is available 6 days a week- no halibut fishing on Wednesdays.

The daily limit is two halibut per person- one may be any size, one cannot exceed 32 inches.

Fishing licenses are required for Alaska residents 18 years and up. Fishing licenses for non-residents are required for ages 16 and up. A non-resident one day fishing license is $15 and is available online @ www.adfg.alaska.gov/store. You must have your fishing license BEFORE arriving the morning of your charter and you must have a paper copy of your license.

Our crew will fillet and bag your catch before we return to port - no waiting around.

Bottled water is provided on day trips. No food is provided. There is room for small coolers on the boat. Alcohol is permitted in moderation. If you become visibly intoxicated while fishing, you will be asked to discontinue fishing and stay in the cabin.

Day Trip Reservation Policy - Full payment required to confirm reservations. Payments are 90% refundable up to 10 days before departure. 9 days from departure all payments become non-refundable. Exclusive charters booked more than 60 days in advance require a 50% deposit with the balance due 10 days prior to departure.

Live Aboard Fishing Charters

The ultimate Prince William Sound fishing experience. Join us aboard 50’ Good Times to experience Alaska fishing as it was meant to be – in a seemingly untouched land far from the hectic combat elbow to elbow road system fishing.

Fish for halibut and salmon, possibly rock fish and ling cod. Dine on fresh shrimp that you caught that day! Fish every day or fish somedays, sightsee others. If you book the boat exclusively, we can modify the itinerary to best suit your parties interests.

You may be in the wilderness, but you won’t be roughing it!
Good Times serves as floating lodges and fishing platform. Good Times offers 3 private guest cabins that sleep 2 each, 2 heads with walk in showers, a large salon to relax in, a large galley for great meals, and a covered cockpit (outside deck) for those less than perfect days. The Good Times has a full size refrigerator, freezer, clothes dryer and Jennaire oven.

Live aboard charters include sleeping accommodations aboard Good Times, home cooked meals often with fresh catch of the day as well as guided fishing, tackle, bait, and ice. We will take the utmost care of your catch, filleting, freezing, refrigerating and or icing your catch depending on the need. Fee's Custom Seafood's, in Whittier, offers vacuum packing, freezing and shipping services.

We are often asked about anchoring overnight out in the ocean. You won’t be. Each night we will find a protected cove near the fishing grounds. Prince William Sound has more than 200 islands and more protected coves than there are boats anchoring overnight. Staying near the fishing grounds reduces travel time and increases fishing time!!!!!

Trip start and end times can be adjusted. Boarding at 9 am works well whether you start from Anchorage or Whittier. The first morning is spent traveling to the fishing grounds. Afternoon and early evening are usually spent pursuing salmon. Ending the last day in the morning allows you to have a full day of fishing the last full day. We start back to Whittier early on the final day having breakfast underway.
